In 1998 Kent was approached by Jim Wright, owner of Wright Machine Tools of Cottage Grove, Oregon, to participate in creating the first (and to date only) replica of Howard Hughes famous H1 Racer. The H1 is considered by many aviation fans to be “the most beautiful airplane ever built.” Wright estimated that his replica took approximately 35,000 hours to create, and was built with a tiny crew that included one paid employee, three volunteers (Mike Mann, Dave Payne, and Al Sherman), and a small handful of professional sub-contractors. His team included project manager Ron Englund, Steve Wolf, Jim Younkin, and Kent White among others. Kent was asked to fabricate the tricky tail skins, and tail and wing root fairings. Like the original H1, which was famously known for the speed record it set, Wright's aircraft also broke speed records at the 2002 Reno Air Races, where it flew the 3-km course at an average of 304 mph.
