Air Power Hammers

When Kent was a budding young metalman, he worked around all the popular forming and shaping machines common to this line of work: the Wheel, the planishing hammer, the bead roller, the stomp shear, the press brake, etc. Kent wanted a small benchtop machine that would stretch, shrink, form, contour, curve flanges, turn flanges over curved surfaces, and planish - all in one machine. It took him about 10 years, and by 1987 he had built the first prototype of the Air Power Hammer - just in time to make a rear fender for a 1914 Mercedes race car. The fender was 18 gauge mild steel and fully-crowned. This meant a lot of hand-hammering! No way! The Air Power hammer shaped that fender in 3 sections, which were then welded together and then the fender was planished. The missing fender matched the existing one perfectly.

In 1994 Kent went public with his new forming machine... within 12 months the "rivet gun" air hammer was being made and sold by small companies all over the US, including Horror Frate.

Today the Air Power Hammer shrinks, stretches, shapes, curves flanges, turns flanges up or down - and does it on curved panels. It also planishes. There are a few more tricks that are waiting in the prototype shop, but the machine has come a long way. With four Air Units and two dozen dies, this Hammer will do many forming operations on many different alloys, hardnesses, and thicknesses. It has been a joy for Kent to develop this machine.

TM Air Power Hammer Straight Post Model I - Straight Post

This model is designed for the heaviest-hitting air units we sell, and will readily work 10 gauge mild steel. The straight die post is 10.5 inches high, measured from the base to the die surface, and the frame has a throat of 24 inches, measured horizontally from the center of the die rearward to the upright frame. The air unit is clamped tightly for working and yet with a twist of the locking handle the unit loosens, lifts, and the hammer dies are quickly changed. The air unit may be set for any metal thickness and is easily changed to heavier or lighter units, depending on the work and metal required. The 4X6 inch rectangular steel frame is inexpensive yet strong and the machine is easily portable - unless filled with sand for both stability and sound-deadening. - More Info -

TM Air Power Hamer Angle Post Model II - Angle Post

This model uses a variation on the Model 1 frame to allow hollow parts to be worked at their edges. The die post sets the working surface of the die at an elevation of 10.5 inches. The throat is 24 inches, measured horizontally from the center of the die rearward to the upright frame. The upper clamp is interchangeable with the other models, and the Angled Post is capable of working 10 gauge mild steel. The frame weighs about as much as Model 1, and may be filled with sand for both stability and for sound-deadening. - More Info -

Multi Post - C-Frame Power House Multi Post - C-Frame Power House

This Air Power Hammer has an extremely strong frame, measuring four times as stiff as the Model 1, with the rectangular frame. The side plates are one-quarter inch thick and are heavily reinforced to take very heavy abuse and pressures. We have designed a new air unit just for this frame, the "Super Heavy," which is capable of working 8 gauge mild steel. The lower die post is 14.5 inches tall, from the upper surface of the die to the base. The throat is 24 inches, measured from the center of the lower die rearward to the vertical frame. The lower tooling arrangements interchangeable between the various configurations: Straight Post, Angled Post, and Straight Arm. - More Info -
