This class is specifically designed to advance student’s skills rapidly while maximizing their metalworking results. The Intensive starts with patterns and 3-D layout, then moves into cutting, forming, planishing, joining, and final fitting. Students select a project (or bring one along) and make their parts using the techniques covered in the course.

Hands-on class time

Each student gets a work station and a complete set of tools.
Shrinking & stretching

Making the part fit the buck is essential.
Shaping to the buck

Welding practice

Welding the formed and fit sections is just part of the whole process.

After the weld is somewhat hammered smooth, some of the proud spots are leveled off by sanding.

Gas welding aluminum

One full day of the Metalworking Intensive focuses on improving welding and joining skills. Some students have never used a torch and others have many years of experience. Welding assignments are customized to each student’s skill level.
Forming Machines

While forming machines are discussed in context during shrinking and stretching projects, the last day of the workshop focuses on overcoming obstacles and gleaning tips on using forming machines to your best advantage.
